Program

Cpl. Freddie Stowers, MOH
"Dulce Et Decorum Est: Corporal Freddie Stowers: An Appointment With Eternity on Hill 188"
WFA Member LTC Taylor Beattie (Ret.) presents on the story of CPL Freddie Stowers, the only African American Medal of Honor recipient from the Great War. Based on his recent article in Military History Magazine.

"Science and The Great War"
WFA Member Douglas Shaffer returns to present the full account of the role of science in WWI - sometimes dubbed "The Chemists' War." WWI occurred at the very epicenter of a "golden age" in science and directly affected (and was affected by) many renowned scientists.

"The Balloon Section of the AEF: A Flash on the Front"
WFA Member Richard Deschenes tells the story of the Balloon Section of the U.S. Army which was one of the smallest of all the organizations at the Front. Even though the use of kite balloons in battle was short lived, they provided a timely tactical advantage which aeroplanes, and their pilots, could not.

"The Forgotten History of French Aerial Bombardment"
WFA and League of WWI Aviation Historians member Steve Suddaby presents a program based on his recent book.

"Building the Ideal WWI Library"
WFA member Andy Hyson presents a survey of different WWI literary perspectives from wartime personal accounts to modern narratives and reassessments. Just what does the ideal WWI library contain? Join us and find out!

And. . .Back by Popular Demand: Memorabilia Tables! Bring your WWI Collectibles and Curios to Display and Share !

The seminar will also include door prizes, a Chapter sponsored WWI book sale and an optional group dinner at the nearby James Joyce Pub.
